'Police Or CBI Don't Take Threat Complaints Seriously': SC Expresses Concern Over Jharkhand Judge Killing

The Supreme Court has expressed concern over the attack on judges across the country and sought response from all states by August 17. And also issued a notice to the CBI on the Dhanbad judge case.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today heard the suspicious death of a district judge in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The Jharkhand government informed about handing over the investigation of this case to the CBI. On this, the Supreme Court said that on Monday the order will be given after hearing the CBI in the matter.

The court also expressed concern over the attack on judges across the country. Asked all states to file answers by August 17. Suggestions were also sought from the Attorney General.

The court said, "The state is not serious about the safety of judges. Even the police or the CBI do not take the threat complaint seriously. Another new trend has begun. In criminal cases, when rich people are involved and the preferred order does not come, they start tarnishing the image of the court. It's all worrying."

Taking cognizance of the matter last week, a bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justice Suryakant had sought a report from the state chief secretary and DGP within 1 week. The court had said that there have been many incidents of assault on judicial officers in and outside the court across the country. We will hear the broader subject of their safety.

At the same time, a day after taking over the investigation of the death of Dhanbad judge Uttam Anand, a 20-member team of CBI's SIT from Delhi has started taking action.

A CBI official related to this case said that the SIT led by Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Shukla had reached Dhanbad on Thursday and started collecting documents in the case registered by the Jharkhand Police SIT. He said the agency also collects details of the investigation conducted by the state police and will soon meet the judge's wife and take her statement.
