Dhanbad: Amid the ongoing hullabaloo over the alleged killing of Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand, Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjeev Kumar on Sunday suspended the officer-in-charge of Pathardih Police Station Umesh Manjhi.

Reports suggest the officer-in-charge of Pathardih Police Station has been suspended for negligence in duty and not taking any prompt action post the district judge’s killing.

This comes as former Jharkhand chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Babulal Marabdi has demanded action against the Dhanbad SSP in connection with the alleged killing of the district judge.

Earlier on Friday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of the district judge in the alleged hit-and-run incident in Dhanbad.

Soren had earlier on Friday met the district judge’s relatives, who expressed satisfaction over the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death case. They also requested the Chief Minister to provide the judge’s wife a job on the basis of a compassionate appointment.

The Dhanbad Police have taken both the arrested auto drivers Lakhan Verma and his accomplices Rahul Verma on five days’ remand in connection with the case.

The Jharkhand High Court has set up an SIT to probe the killing of the district judge, who was knocked down by an auto-rickshaw earlier on July 28 while on his morning walk.
