A few weeks earlier, as the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express was passing through the Santhaldih railway crossing, a train accident was avoided near Bokaro, Jharkhand, when a tractor collided with a railway gate.

The disaster may have been avoided if the driver had pressed the brakes quickly enough to bring the train to a halt. The incident occurred about 5 p.m., and as a result, the train was delayed for nearly 45 minutes to its next stop. The gateman was relieved of his responsibilities, and the tractor was seized. An FIR was also filed at the relevant police station. However, before being apprehended, the tractor's driver fled the scene of the collision.

This occurrence occurred just days after the horrific Balasore train disaster. The tragic catastrophe claimed the lives of up to 278 persons and seriously wounded over 1,000 others.
