At least four people were killed and 10 others suffered burn injuries when the Tazia they were carrying during the Moharram procession came in contact with a high-tension electric wire in Khetko village of Peterwar Block in Jharkhand's Bokaro district today, as reported by the news agency ANI.






Bokaro Superintendent of Police Priyadarshi Alok said that the incident occurred at Khetko village under the Petarwar Police Station limits, around 80 km from the state capital Ranchi, when their religious flag, made of iron, came in contact with a live wire.


“The incident occurred around 6 am on Saturday while they were preparing for a Muharram procession. They were carrying a religious flag and its pole was made of iron. It somehow came in contact with a high-tension electric wire of 11,000 volts," the SP told PTI. All the injured people were taken to a nearby hospital, he said. Eight of them were referred to the Bokaro General Hospital where four succumbed to their injuries and the condition of three were stated to be critical, the officer added.


Meanwhile, a man participating in a Muharram procession in Lucknow on Saturday sustained burn injuries when the 'tazia' caught fire after coming in contact with a high-tension wire, police said. The incident took place in the Aliganj area in the city. The injured, Rinku of JJ area in Purania, is in a critical condition, they said.


"During a Muharram procession, a 'tazia' accidentally touched an overhead high-tension wire near the Purania railway crossing and caught fire. As a result, a man who was part of the procession sustained burn injuries," Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Kumar said, as quoted by PTI.


Police teams deputed there handled the situation and took the injured to hospital, he said. Several Muharram processions were held, especially in the old city here, on Saturday.
