New Delhi: Police on Saturday booked 10 unidentified persons for allegedly beating up and gang-raping a software engineer in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa on October 20, news agency ANI reported.


According to the report, police said that the victim had gone out with her friend on the evening of October 20 and while they were having a conversation on the roadside, eight to ten people came, who initially bashed them up and then forcefully took the woman to a secluded place and raped her.


Police said an FIR has been registered against 10 unidentified accused and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter. No arrests have been made so far and search is underway to nab the accused, Ashutosh Shekhar, SP Chaibasa, said.






According to reports, the victim is a 26-year-old software engineer hailing from a tribal village in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.

The incident happened on Thursday night, near the old airport in Chaibasa, police said. After raping her, the accused took her wallet and mobile phone and fled the spot.


As per reports, the woman somehow returned home and after she informed her family members about her ordeal, they prompted her to file a police complaint. A case has been registered at the Muffasil police station.

Meanwhile, the woman is currently undergoing medical treatment at Sadar Hospital, where the security has been stepped up.
