Three over-ground workers (OGWs) of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit were detained on Monday under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials told news agency PTI that the suspects - Touseef-ul-Nabi, Zahoor-ul-Hassan, and Reyaz Ahmad were taken into custody under the law that allows detention without any charges or trials for up to two years in some cases based on the recommendations of the police.
Officials told PTI that a dossier was prepared by police against the trio and was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar who approved their detention under the Public Safety Act.
After completing the formalities and getting the necessary approval, the three OGWs were detained and then shifted to jail, the officials told PTI said.
The development comes as operation to drive out terrorists hiding in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district's Gadole forest region reached its sixth day on Monday, with security forces utilising drones in order to locate the hideouts of the terrorists for carrying out assaults on them, news agency PTI reported. Union Territory Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has promised retaliation for the deaths of three Army personnel officers in the encounter.
One burnt corpse was retrieved earlier this morning. The body is believed to be that of a militant, it has been sent for DNA testing. As per the sources. two more militants are believed to be still present, reported PTI.
As per the authorities, drone footage revealed a burnt body which was lying near one of the hideouts that was demolished earlier during the five-day anti-terror operation. Authorities said that any more information regarding it would be made public only after security officers cleaned the area of any terrorists.
Terrorists are believed to be trapped since Wednesday after they killed two Army personnel and one Deputy Superintendent of Police in the initial exchange of fire between the groups.
