Srinagar: Two terrorists neutralised in an encounter between the former and the security forces at Redwani area in South Kashmir's Kulgam district have been identified as Amir Bashir Dar and Adil Yousuf Shan. 


"Two unidentified terrorists killed. Search operation is going on," the Jammu & Kashmir Police had informed on Thursday morning.

According to reports, incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 2 pistols, 2 magazines, 7 pistol rounds and 1 grenade were recovered from their possession. 


The encounter took place on Thursday morning after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Redwani area of Kulgam district late on Wednesday night. 


As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.


A Police official told news agency PTI that the search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired upon the forces. "Two ultras were killed in the exchange of firing in the early hours of Thursday," the official had said, adding search operation was going on till last reports.


The encounter comes a day after an 'A+' category terrorist of proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday.

According to Police, the terrorist killed in the encounter was involved in several terror crimes, including attack on policemen guarding a minority housing camp in 2018 at Zainapora in Shopian, in which four police personnel were killed.


"A militant of the proscribed terror outfit HM was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Feroz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Heff-Shrimal Shopian," the Police said.


Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including one AK rifle along with three magazines were also recovered from his possession.
