Jammu & Kashmir: Militants Attack Police Party In Srinagar's Jamalatta, Cop Injured

Militants attacked a police party in the Jamalatta area of Nawakadal.

Srinagar: Militants on Sunday attacked a police party in the Jamalatta area of Nawakadal in the old city. According to the police, as the team approached the spot where terrorists were suspected to be hiding they faced indiscriminate firing, resulting in injuries to one police personnel.

One policeman was injured and the area has been cordoned off.

It was a police raid on a suspected hideout and some exchange of fire occurred in which one cop suffered injury. An official statement informed that the police personnel was evacuated to a nearby hospital for the treatment of his injuries, news agency ANI reported.

Meanwhile, personnel of Srinagar Police and CRPF have laid a cordon off the cluster of houses in Jamalata, Nawa Kadal where terrorists are hiding, Kashmir Police informed.

"Keeping in view the safety of the civilians and evening rush in the area the police team exercised maximum restraint. However, reinforcement of Police and CRPF laid cordon of the suspected clusters of houses and a search started," police said, as quoted by ANI. 

A search is underway and a case has been registered, the Kashmir Police said.
