Jammu & Kashmir: ISM Doctor Dies 13 Days After Recovering From COVID-19 In Bandipora

Dr Shabir Ahmed Malik got infected with the novel COVID-19 virus during contact tracing in the Hajin area of Bandipore district.

Srinagar: In a tragic development, an Indian System of Medicine (ISM) doctor lost his life thirteen days after recovering from deadly Coronavirus infection. According to the sources, the medic identified as Dr Shabir Ahmed Malik got infected with the novel COVID-19 virus during contact tracing in the Hajin area of Bandipore district. ALSO READ | India Readies 5 Sites For Phase 3 Human Trials Of Oxford Covid-19 Vaccine; SII To Start Manufacturing Next Month Hailing from North Kashmir's Sumbal area of  Bandipora, the 46 year old doctor was working under National Rural Mission and was posted in remote Gurez town of Bandipora. He was deputed to the Hajin belt after corona infection spread. During the contact tracing operation, Malik was found to be infected with the COVID-19 on 4th July and was admitted in hospital on 8th July. He soon recovered from the infection and was tested negative on July 15, following which he was discharged from the hospital. On Monday, July 27, Malik developed health complications at home soon after which he was shifted to SKIMS hospital in Soura. During examination, Malik was again tested for COVID-19 in which he was declared positive for the Coronavirus. Malik, after being again admitted to the hospital, developed symptoms like hemoptysis with sudden fall  in oxygen saturation. In other words, it is the airway bleeding. According to the experts, this can occur with lung cancer, infections such as tuberculosis, bronchitis, or pneumonia, and certain cardiovascular conditions. No official bulletin has been issued in regard with the cause of the death of Dr Malik or how he came in contact with the infection for the second time after recovering from the disease 12 days back. Malik is survived by his wife and two minor kids. His Wife Dr Shaista is also a medical officer under NHM.
