Jammu: A secret tunnel has been discovered by the Border Security Force (BSF) at the international border in the Samba sector in Jammu and Kashmir, Army officials said. The tunnel was detected by the BSF personnel during an operation to foil Pakistan's designs to infiltrate in the country through the Valley. "Alert BSF troops detected a tunnel in the Samba Sector of Jammu; thwarting the nefarious designs of Pakistan," BSF said. The tunnel was constructed from across the border to facilitate infiltration of terrorists which was detected by BSF troops in Bobiyaan village during an operation Wednesday morning.

"The tunnel detected along IB in Hiranagar sector of Kathua is approximately 150 meter long. A proper engineering effort has gone into construction of this tunnel. This is a deliberate effort of Pakistan to push in terrorists into India," BSF IG NS Jamwal said.

However, it seems like the tunnel has not been used recently, Jamwal added.

This is not the first time that trans border tunnel has been detected by the BSF at the international border in Jammu. Last year in November, a similar construction was detected by the security forces within Pakistan side of international border.

A joint team of BSF and police detected a tunnel originating within Pakistan side and exiting on the Indian side in the area of Border Outpost Regal in the Samba district.

Even in August 2020, the BSF detected a 20-feet long trans border tunnel in Basantar at the international border in the Samba district of Jammu.

There have been regular inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Pakistan border villages desperately looking for infiltration into the Indian territory and ever vigilant BSF troops have foiled desperate attempts of anti national elements to infiltrate into India.
