New Delhi: The surge in number of Coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir stares the state in face now as 260 new COVID-19 infections were registered here on Tuesday. Of the newly reported Coronavirus positive cases, 60 patients appeared to be paramilitary personnel while 11 are policemen. Among the cases, 32 were confirmed from Jammu Division and 228 from Kashmir Division. The cases also include seven from Army Good Will School, taking the overall tally in Jammu and Kashmir to 7,497. The death toll of the state stands at 101 till now. Five people succumbed to the infection during last 24 hours.

Giving district wise breakup of the cases, officials said that Kulgam reported the highest number of cases - 64, followed by Srinagar 46, Baramulla 44, Shopian and Budgam 19 each, Anantnag 17, Pulwama 14, Jammu 12 and Udhampur 7. Ramban and Kathua reported 5 each while Bandipora saw 3 fresh cases. Rajouri recorded 2 new patients besides one each in Kupwara, Ganderbal and Samba.

Dr. G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer Coronavirus Control Measures at SKIMS Soura told that out of the 2,278 samples processed at the viral diagnostic laboratory, at least 145 returned positive for the virus.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura confirmed that 60 of the positive cases were from CRPF Battalions, 19 from Shopian, 18 from Anantnag, 17 from Srinagar, 13 from Pulwama, seven from Baramulla, four from Kulgam, two each from Ganderbal, Budgam and Bandipora besides one from Kupwara.

The Anantnag cases include seven from Army Good Will School Khanbal besides that of residents from Gassipora, Bijbhera, Siligam, Hassanpora, Dethu and main Anantnag. On the other hand, the CRPF cases are from the 29 battalion Patha Chowk, 44 battalion HMT Srinagar, 18 battalion Kulgam while Pulwama cases include 11 from police station Rajpora besides residents from Lajoora and Dadsara.

Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina, told that out of 501 samples processed at the hospital’s lab, 36 tested positive for COVID-19— 20 from Srinagar  and 16 from Budgam.

Going by the latest updates, 137 COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 22 from Jammu Division and 115 from the Valley.

On the whole, there are 1,19,696 more recovered patients than COVID-19 active cases in India as of now. While there are 2,15,125 active cases, all under active medical supervision, 3,34,821 patients have been cured and discharged.

This has resulted in the recovery rate among COVID-19 patients further improving to 59.07 per cent. During the last 24 hours, a total of 13,099 COVID-19 patients have been cured.
