Indian Army’s Mountaineering Expedition Scales Tallest Peak In Kashmir, Mount Harmukh. Hoists Tricolour

The expedition was conducted by a team of mountaineers of one of the elite Battalion of Indian Army to commemorate their Platinum Jubilee, an army statement stated.

A team of 15 mountaineers of Indian Army achieved a monumental triumph by successfully scaling one of the highest peaks of Kashmir Valley, Mount Harmukh from September 26 to 30, 2023. The expedition was conducted by a team of mountaineers of one of the elite Battalion of Indian Army to commemorate their Platinum Jubilee, an army statement stated.

According to the statement, these intrepid guys ventured on a perilous trip to reach the peak of Mount Harmukh, which stands tall at a height of 5142 metres (16870 feet) above sea level.

"The challenging journey which began on September 26 tested the limits of human endurance and showcased the remarkable resilence of Indian Army. The Expedition was flagged in by Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, GOC Chinar Corps at Kamakeri on October 3 who praised the team for completing this challenging feat," reads the statement.

It went on to say that the victory on Mount Harmukh represents the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to preserving our borders and national interests.

"Its determination to conquer one of the tallest peaks of Kashmir also reflects the camaraderie and commitment to duty towards protection of the nation, no matter of the odds," the statement reads.

Last year in September, a team of two Grenadiers led by Maj Avneet Kumar scaled the frigid heights of Mount Harmukh, 5142 metres. Mount Harmukh is regarded as one of the most difficult and technical summits in the Kashmir valley. The expedition, according to the PRO (Defence), Srinagar, was undertaken with the goal of fostering a healthy and long-lasting relationship between the 'Indian Army' and the Kashmiri awaam by incorporating six NCC Cadets of the 3 Jammu and Kashmir Battalion NCC and two young men from Keran village who were trained in rock and ice craft by the Indian Army at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in February 2022.
