New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the incident of firing at Jamia Millia Islamia University earlier in the day and alleged the saffron party of playing dirty tactics to postpone the Delhi Elections scheduled to take place on February 8. Hours after the shocking incident took place in the national capital during an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) march, the narrative has once again shifted to the crucial Delhi assembly polls.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh took to Twitter and blamed the BJP for the firing incident where a student was injured. The AAP leader also claimed that the accused was inspired by hate speeches made by BJP leaders during election campaigns in Delhi.

A student from Jamia Millia Islamia was injured when a man opened fire at a group of protesters on Thursday afternoon and shouted "Yeh lo azaadi", triggering panic in the city's Jamia area, eye-witnesses said. The man was overpowered by protesters.

"Amit Shah wants to disturb environment of Delhi. First, they made their leaders give instigating speeches. BJP can see defeat in #DelhiElections, this conspiracy was hatched out of that fear. HM is conspiring to postpone polls," Singh said.

Singh also said that since Amit Shah has become Union Home Minister, law and order situation across the country has worsened. BJP always tries to disturb the environment under a pre-planned conspiracy under the fear of loosing elections.

"First their leaders make absurd statements, then they call Arvind Kejriwal a terrorist and then they try to disturb the environment of Delhi due to fear of falling out in elections," Singh said.

"How much dirty politics will the BJP do on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary. Due to fear of loosing, BJP and Amit Shah are trying to postpone Delhi elections. In Jamia firing incident, Amit Shah tied hands of Delhi Police and thus they acted as bystanders," Singh said in a tweet in Hindi.

The incident took place while the students were heading from Jamia to Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat. The march was stopped at the Holy Family Hospital near the university. The accused also made several 'Facebook Live videos' minutes before entering the campus area and opening fire.

According to reports, the accused is a resident of Jewar area of Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Greater Noida. The student injured in the firing has been identified as Shadab Farooq - a mass communication student. He was later sent to AIIMS trauma centre.
