New Delhi: The Election Commission has imposed a 72-hour ban on Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur, and a four day (96 hours) ban on Bharatiya Janata Party MP Parvesh Verma from campaigning for Delhi assembly elections, over heir controversial remarks.

An EC official said the decision was taken as the poll panel was not satisfied with their reply to the show-cause notices.

On Wednesday the poll body had ordered removal of Anurag Thakur’s and Parvesh Verma’s names from BJP's campaigners' list and also sent notice to them over violation of provisions of Model Code of Conduct and Representation of the People Act, 1951

It had given Parvesh Verma time till 12 noon on 30th January to provide an explanation, failing which it said it would take a decision on the matter.
