Shocking! Jaipur Police Find Graduates, Postgraduates Among 1,162 Beggars; List Includes 80 Teens Between 11 To 20 Yrs
Jaipur Beggars Surveyed by Police: Survey reports beggars who are post-graduates, 50 kids below 10 years of age, 80 teens between 11 to 20 years.
Jaipur: The Jaipur police commissionerate recently held a survey on the 1,162 beggars living in the capital city of Rajasthan and found out that 5 of them were post-graduates while 193 beggars had completed their school studies. In further detail, 31 were found to be literate and 903 were illiterate.
Police officials revealed that the purpose of the survey is the aim to make Jaipur free of beggars who were also asked which job or line of work will they be in if given a choice.
160 of them stated their disinterest in working at all, 117 were willing to do anything. Among them, 27 wanted to contribute to the education sector whole others were willing to take up labor-intensive work, catering, handwork, hotel job, etc.
The survey has also revealed the religions the beggars belong to - 1016 said they are Hindu, 111 were Muslims, 6 were Sikh, 4 were Christians, two were Jain while 23 did not divulge their religious background.

In terms of gender, 939 male beggars and 223 women beggars were found in the city.
Age-wise, maximum beggars (278) were between the age of 31-40 years while 259 beggars were between 41-50 years. In a startling find, 52 beggars were in the age group of up to 10 years while 80 beggars were between 11 to 20 years of age.
In terms of their native states: 809 beggars revealed they were from Rajasthan, 95 said from Uttar Pradesh, 63 from MP, 45 from Bihar, 37 from West Bengal, 25 from Gujarat and 15 from Maharashtra.
The least were from Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh counting to one each while there were two beggars each from Karnataka and Kerala.
The survey was conducted in the district aimed at rehabilitating the beggars. On Monday, the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly passed the Rajasthan Beggars or Rehabilitation of Poor Persons (Amendment) Bill, 2020 by voice vote.
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Rajendra Singh Yadav presented the Bill in the House for discussion. Earlier, the House had rejected the proposal to publicise the bill for seeking public opinion.
