New Delhi: A terrorist was gunned down by security forces during in an encounter in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir. There are reports that two or three terrorists are still hiding.At present the forces have stopped firing and have started search operation.

The encounter started in the Melhora area of ​​Shopian district of South Kashmir  last evening. A report by IANS says that The encounter began after security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation which was based on a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area.

During the search operation in Melhura, Zenapora in Shopian, the terrorists tried to flee but soldiers surrounded them.

The ambushed militants also fired indiscriminately. Jammu and Kashmir Police Inspector Mohammad Ashraf was martyered during the firing and was killed on the spot. Recently militants attacked security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. In the attack that took place in the Gangu area of Pulwama a soldier was injured. The militants had opened fire on a joint team of police and CRPF in Gangu in Pulwama district.
