New Delhi: The security forces gunned down two terrorists in an encounter in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said both Umer Teli and Safat were local terrorists and operated in Srinagar, ANI reported.
The top cop said the two terrorists had escaped to Tral after carrying out civilian killings and various other incidents.
“We were tracking them. Both terrorists have been killed today,” he added.
The IGP, Kashmir, also hinted at the role of terrorists from the other side of the border for creating disturbance in the valley.
Responding to a poser on whether Pakistani terrorists’ are using local terrorists, the IGP told the news agency: “Definitely. They keep local terrorists at the front and attack from behind them.”

“In Pulwama, 2 non-local labourers who worked there were killed. We identified (terrorists involved), they will be neutralised soon,” said Kumar.
“In Shopian, there was an attack on a Kashmiri Pandit in a remote village. We have a lead, neutralisation (of terrorist) will be done soon,” he added.
The IGP further said around 66 terrorists have been killed from December 2021 to March this year.
“So, they are targeting soft targets out of frustration,” he added.
The senior police official’s remarks come as a joint contingent of the police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and army laid siege around the Tral area of Pulwama in the early hours of the day after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.
