J&K: Protests Outside Hurriyat Office In Srinagar Over Killing Of Kashmiri Pandit, Hoardings Defaced

Protesters gathered outside the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat's office in Rajbagh here and staged a sit-in. They blamed the Hurriyat for the bloodshed in Kashmir Valley.

Officials said a group of people, including social activists, protested outside the Hurriyat Conference office on Monday in response to the killing of Kashmiri Pandit farmer Puran Krishan Bhat by terrorists last week, news agency PTI reported.

Protesters gathered outside the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat's office in Rajbagh here and staged a sit-in. They blamed the Hurriyat for the bloodshed in Kashmir Valley.

According to officials, protesters daubed "India" on the main gate of the Hurriyat's central building and tore down the separatist amalgam's signboard.

The gate was shut.

According to the officials, protesters included social activists, municipal officials, and Kashmiri Pandits.

According to one of the protesters, the Hurriyat office will be closed soon and an orphanage will be run out of the building.

Another protestor, a Kashmiri Pandit, stated that the people of Kashmir have realised they prefer peace to bloodshed.

Terrorists shot and killed Bhat outside his ancestral home in the Chowdhary Gund area of south Kashmir's Shopian district, where he had gone to tend to his orchards. On Sunday, Bhat was cremated in Jammu.

On Sunday evening, candlelight marches were held across the valley in protest of the killing.
