Delhi Police Special Cell DCP Pramod Kushwaha informed that during search operations, various incriminating materials such as "a brown colour jacket containing 3 explosive packets and a blue colour check jacket containing 4 explosive packets were recovered which were removed safely." A leather belt containing approx 3 Kg explosive was also recovered, added Kushwaha.
The development has come two days after a brief encounter near Ring Road broke out on Friday, leading to the arrest of Abu Yusuf Khan plotting an attack on Delhi. The suspected ISIS operative was arrested on Ridge Road between Karol Bagh and Dhaula Kuan after a brief shootout. As per the investigation so far, official sources aware of the developments have informed that the ISIS terrorist was planning an attack on Ram Mandir site and was acting on the instructions of his bosses in Afghanistan.
Soon after his arrest, 15 Kg of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a pistol were recovered from his possession yesterday.
Briefing further on the incriminating maerials seized today, DCP Kushwaha said, "He (ISIS operative Abu Yusuf) was planning to plant the two recovered IEDs in a high footfall area of Delhi. After that, he was to receive instructions from his handler to carry out a fidayeen attack."
A police team had received information about Khan’s movement in the ridge area between Dhaula Kuan and Karol Bagh, following which it laid a trap.
The police believe the suspect visited several places in the city and was plotting a lone wolf attack. The matter is being investigated further, the police said, to determine if the suspected terrorist had accomplices in other parts of the city or country.
