New Delhi: Is Sourav Ganguly gearing up for the role of ICC chairman? The expectations have started building up, after former South Africa captain and present Director of Cricket South Africa, Graeme Smith backed the current BCCI President to take the role of ICC chairman as it will be vacant after Shashank Manohar, the present chairman, leaves in a month. The ICC Chairman's election is slated in June and the present COVID 19 situation, it can be delayed. Former England and Wales Cricket Board Chief, Colin Graves, looked like the front runner for the position, but Graeme Smith's comments have started building a lot of momentum for Ganguly. Earlier, stylish England batsman and former captain David Gower also batted for Sourav, saying is an apt candidate for the role of ICC chief.

In the recent past, Sourav Ganguly has been a 'little out of action' but all of a sudden Smith's remarks have brought him back to the headlines.

Smith said," From our perspective, it will be great to see somebody like Sourav Ganguly getting into the president's role of ICC. It will be great for the game of cricket. He has played the game at the highest level and understands it well. He is also respected."

Sourav Ganguly can continue as BCCI president if the honorable Supreme Court allows him an extension till 2024.

Everyone interested in Indian cricket was looking at that, but Graeme Smith's comments certainly have brought a new twist in the tale.
