This is a love story of a 36-year-old Dalit lawmaker who got hitched with his 19-year-old girlfriend from a Brahmin family. The ruling AIADMK MLA from Kallakuruchi constituency, A Prabhu married college student S Soundarya despite a resistance from the girl's side, news agency IANS reported. The infuriated girl's father S. Swaminathan, who is a local temple priest has accused that his daughter was abducted.

As per other reports, the father had accused Kallakurichi MLA A Prabhu for luring his daughter with kind words and abducted her on October 1 around 4 pm. He also threatened of immolating himself followed by a case registered against him for attempted suicide. A First Information Report (FIR) under section 309 (attempt to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been filed on Swaminathan.

The duo got married at Prabhu's residence after Soundarya is said to have left her parent's home.

In fact, Prabhu's parents are also with the AIADMK. Meanwhile Prabhu rubbished the rumours of kidnapping Soundarya and forcibly getting married. He also denied threatening her parents.

The 35 year old legislator said the duo were in love in love for the past four months and even sought her parents’ permission to marry. According to him, his family had formally asked Swaminathan's consent for the wedding. However, the father of the girl refused for the proposal. The lawmaker insisted that he went ahead with the marriage with the blessings from his own parents.

The Hathras incident have triggered massive outrage across the country, bringing severe flak for the government of U.P. which has now recommended a CBI probe into the whole episode.
