Monsoon HIGHLIGHTS:  Two weeks after the monsoon hit the national capital, Delhi and NCR witnessed relief from the sultry weather. Bringing much-needed respite to the people, heavy rain showers lashed several parts. The temperature had reduced on Monday after a downpour in some parts of Delhi.  

The rains also led to traffic snarls and waterlogging in many areas.

On Monday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.9 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, while the minimum settled at 27.1 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, the weather office said.

The Safdarjung Observatory considered the official marker for the capital, recorded 1 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm.  The Palam observatory received traces of rainfall while Pitampura received 77.5 mm of rainfall. The Delhi University received 11.4 mm rainfall whereas Najafgarh received 4 mm of rainfall.

Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai

Heavy rains along with strong winds lashed Mumbai and its suburbs on Tuesday morning amid an 'orange' alert issued by the India Meteorological Department, civic officials said.

There was no report of any major water-logging anywhere in the city so far, they said.

The local trains services on the Central Railway and Western Railway corridors were running normally

Three persons were missing in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district after heavy rains and incessant downpour led to a rise in water levels of several rivers in Nashik district, where many temples, located on the bed of the Godavari river, were submerged.

Officials said in Gadchiroli district, three persons were swept away in overflowing nullahs in the last three days and their bodies were fished out later. However, three more persons are still missing after being swept away in the nullah , they said.

Flood-Like Situation Gujarat

Meanwhile, Gujarat is witnessing incessant downpours for the past few days. Heavy rainfall resulted in severe water logging and a flood-like situation in Ahmedabad on Monday.

The Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rainfall in the entire state for the next five days. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in many districts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch. "For next 5 days, light to moderate rainfall is expected in the entire state. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in many districts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra & Kutch. The intensity of rainfall will reduce by July 15," said Dr Manorama Mohanty, Director, Meteorological Department.

The district administration in Maharashtra's Osmanabad on Tuesday asked residents of villages along the Manjara, Terna and Tawarja rivers to remain alert as heavy rains are expected in the region. The catchment areas of dams on these rivers could receive heavy rainfall.

At least nine people were killed in rain-related incidents in Maharashtra and Gujarat and thousands were evacuated as incessant rains battered the two states on Tuesday, PTI reported. Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed Mumbai and suburbs and also flooded many parts of the city, throwing road traffic out of gear at some places. In Gujarat, six people died in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours, raising the toll to 69 since June 1.

IMD Predicts Moderate To Heavy Rainfall In Mumbai In Next 24 Hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rain in Mumbai and suburbs with a possibility of very heavy downpour at isolated places and occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph over the next 24 hours. Mumbai witnessed incessant showers on Tuesday. There was water-logging up to two feet at the Andheri subway, and traffic from there was diverted to SV Road. Traffic movement is also slow in Pratap Nagar, Jogeshwari in the western suburbs, at some spots on the Western Express Highway, Netaji Palkar Chowk, Everard Nagar and near the family court in the Bandra-Kurla Complex, PTI reported.
