New Delhi: Ahead of the arrival of the Indian delegation led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur at the Cannes 2022 Red Carpet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that various start-ups from India will be showcasing their talent at Cannes Film Festival 2022, and will also "display facets of Indian cinema and promote international partnerships and learnings," news agency PTI reported. 


Expressing delight as India is being chosen as Country of Honour at Marché du Film-festival de Cannes, PM Modi said, "As India celebrates its 75th yr of independence,75th anniversary of Cannes Film Festival&75 yrs of Indo-French diplomatic ties enhance pride associated with momentous milestones."






Asserting rich heritage and cultuaral diversity as India's strength, PM Modi said, "We've a lot of stories to be explored. India possesses immense potential to become content hub of the world. Govt of India remains steadfast in its efforts towards furthering ease of doing business in film sector."


"Films and society are mirror images of each other. Cinema showcases human emotions and expressions in an artistic manner, binding the world together with a common strand of entertainment," he added. 


PM Modi also praised the multifariousness of Indian film sector, and said, that "India is the largest film-producing country in the world."


"It is heartening to note that a film by one of India's most renowned filmmakers, Satyajit Ray, has been restored for screening at the Cannes Classics section, when India is celebrating the birth centenary of the legendary filmmaker," he further said. 


The 75th Cannes Film Festival 2022 begins today in France and will continue till May 28. The Film Festival is one of the most widely anticipated and prominent events in the entertainment sector, with many artists, celebrities, and fans looking forward to it. Some of the industry's best actors will be in attendance.


The Indian delegation will walk the red carpet at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, who will be joined by movie stars such as AR Rahman, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and actor Pooja Hegde.
