New Delhi: The country is celebrating its 75th Independence Day this year. Prime Minister hoisted the National Flag at the Red Fort in the morning. The Tricolour is also being hoisted across the country. But do you know there are some rules for hoisting the national flag?
More importantly, if you unfurl the Tricolour without following these rules, you could face penalties as well as prison time.
In 2002, rules were made about hoisting the national flag known as the Indian Flag Code. The code explains all the rules and formal guidelines for hoisting the national flag tricolour. The Flag Code was implemented on 26th January 2002 on the occasion of Republic Day.
Keep these things in mind before hoisting the national flag
- The Tricolor should never fly upside down.
- The flag should be rectangular in shape, with 3:2 ratio of the length to the width or height.
- An appropriate size should be chosen for display.
- The Tricolour should always be made of cotton, silk or khadi. There is a provision of punishment for hoisting a plastic flag.
- Before hoisting the flag, see it is not torn or damaged and the colour of the flag is not faded.
- It is a legal offence to write anything on the flag.
- The flag should never touch the ground.
- The Tricolour should be hoisted above all the other flags. No other flag should be hoisted above it.
- If the flag is torn, or the color fades, immerse it in a water body.
- Flags should never be used to make clothes.
