Independence Day 2020: National Event Themed 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' To Honour Corona Warriors

Government said that COVID-19 warriors like doctors, health workers, sanitation workers may be invited in the ceremony as a recognition of their noble service in fight against Coronavirus Pandemic.

New Delhi: The Independence Day observed on August 15 is usually celebrated with grandeur, gaiety, fervour and enthusiasm each year. However, in view of Coronavirus pandemic, the central government has issued a detailed advisory to States/Union Territories how celebrations can be held in a manner befitting the occasion at state capital, district headquarters, sub-divisions and panchayat-levels. ALSO READ | BMC Restricts Gathering For Home Installation Of 'Ganesh Idol' In New Directives For Upcoming Ganpati Festival In a statement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday, the government said that the theme of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" will be suitably spread and publicised among the masses through various activities/messages in the functions and on social media during Independence Day celebrations. In a four page advisory issued today, the government of India stressed upon certain preventive measures such as maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, proper sanitization, avoiding large congregations, protecting vulnerable persons, and follow all guidelines related to COVID-19 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare while organizing various programmes or activities for the Independence Day celebrations. Keeping in mind to avoid the large gathering at the event, MHA has decided that the ceremony  at Red Fort will consist of the presentation of a Guard of Honour by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police to the Prime Minister, unfurling of the National Flag accompanied by playing of the National Anthem and firing of 21-gun salute, speech by the Prime Minister, singing of the National Anthem immediately after PM's speech, and release of tricoloured balloons at the end. Similarly, the celebrations marked at district or Panchayat level may observe unfurling of the National Flag by a Minister, Commissioner or District Magistrate; playing of the National Anthem; parade by State Police personnel; speech by the eminent officials explaining the significance of 15th August and exhorting the audience to work for the unity and integrity of the country; and singing of the National Anthem. "All programmes should be organised in a way that large congregation of people is avoided and technology is used in best possible manner for celebration befitting the occasion," the advisory said. Centre further advised that COVID-19 warriors like doctors, health workers, sanitation workers may be invited in the ceremony as a recognition of their noble service in fight against COVID-19 Pandemic.
