The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday said that a well-marked low pressure area has been persisting over west central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts. As the cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure area is likely to move northwestwards across north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts, a red and orange alert have been issued respectively.
“A well- marked low pressure area over west central & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level persists. It is likely to move slowly northwestwards across north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts,” said the IMD.
"We have well-marked low pressure over South Odisha, North Andhra coast over West Central Bay and Adjourning Northwest Bay. So because of that the rainfall has been heavy to very heavy, isolated and extremely heavy. We have the red warning mainly for the peninsula part which is Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” IMD Senior Scientist RK Jenamani told news agency ANI.
“Also heavy to very heavy over South Odisha, an orange alert is there...So we have an orange alert for Northern India, particularly for Delhi and also for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana... And if we see Uttarakhand, Himachal rain has increased, we have an orange alert for the next three days for the Western Himalaya..." he added.
IMD Issues Red Alert For Ratnagiri, Orange Alert For 5 Maha Districts Including Mumbai
The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a red alert for Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri for tomorrow, July 27. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places,” said the weather department. Apart from Ratnagiri, the IMD also issued an orange alert for five districts of the state including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg, and Raigad. The orange alert has been issued till Saturday for Raigad and till Friday for Ratnagiri.
For Friday, July 28, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Sindhudurg with “heavy rainfall at isolated places”.
On Saturday, Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are expected to receive “heavy rainfall at isolated places” while Mumbai is “very likely” to receive moderate rainfall.
For Sunday, moderate showers are “very likely” to occur over Palghar, Mumbai, and Sindhudurg while Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are expected to receive “heavy rainfall at isolated places”.
