IAF Chopper Crash: The lone survivor of the Coonoor helicopter crash, Group Captain Varun Singh, is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at Command Hospital in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to his family over the phone to know about his health and assured them of all help.
According to reports, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told Captain Varun Singh's family that the country is ready to help in every way. He also assured that Captain Singh is being given the best medical facility. The family members have also expressed satisfaction over his treatment. According to doctors at Command Hospital, his condition remains critical and a special team is monitoring him. They said he underwent dialysis the previous day and his BP has come under control.
13 Killed In The Crash
The severely injured Group Captain was admitted to a hospital in Wellington after Wednesday's accident. He was first taken to Sulur by road in an ambulance and then rushed to Bengaluru for better treatment. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika, and 11 other army personnel were killed when the Mi-17V5 helicopter crashed near Coonoor on Wednesday. Group Captain Varun Singh is the only survivor of the accident.
Varun Singh Was Awarded Shaurya Chakra.
Group Captain Varun Singh was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in August for his outstanding work of successfully rescuing Tejas from a possible crash. The fighter aircraft was hit by a major technical glitch last year.
Cremation Of The Deceased
The last rites for the country's first CDS General Bipin Rawat were performed on Friday. He was accorded a final farewell at the Brar Square Crematorium in Delhi Cantonment with military honours. Bipin Rawat and Madhulika Rawat's daughters Kritika and Tarini cremated their parents. Many leaders including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, officials from other countries reached the crematorium to pay their last respects to CDS General Bipin Rawat.
