"Naxalism is a curse to humanity, and we are determined to eradicate it in all of its forms," said Home Minister Shah. According to the report, the country's security situation regarding Left Wing Extremism has improved significantly over the last five years. The 'National Policy and Action Plan to Address LWE' was approved by the central government in 2015.
According to the report, the policy envisions a multi-pronged strategy that includes security-related measures, development interventions, ensuring local communities' rights and entitlements, and so on.
The consistent implementation of this policy has resulted in a consistent decline in LWE violence across the country, according to the report.
According to the report, the number of LWE-related violent incidents has decreased by 77% since the peak in 2010.
There has been a decline of more than 52 per cent in Left Wing Extremism related violence, 69 per cent in deaths, 72 per cent in security forces deaths and 68 per cent in civilian deaths between 2014 and 2023 compared to the period from 2005 to 2014: Ministry of Home Affairs pic.twitter.com/65mkVrxfTt

The number of resultant deaths of security forces and civilians has also reduced by 90 per cent in 2022 as compared to the high of 2010.
According to the data prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, from 2004 to 2014, there were 17,679 LWE-related incidents and 6,984 deaths. In contrast, from 2014 to 2023 (till 15 June 23), there have been 7,649 LWE-related incidents and 2,020 deaths.
Earlier in the day, before joining the meeting, Shah took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his views and termed Naxalism a "curse to humanity", saying PM Modi-led government is committed to uprooting Naxalism in all its forms.
Naxalism is a curse to humanity and we are resolved to uproot it in all its forms.
