Over 50 people have perished in rain-related accidents in Himachal Pradesh in the last two days. Following the cloudburst on Sunday night, two residences in the state's Solan area were swept away. A police spokesman reported that while six people were saved, seven others were slain in Jadon village.

In another rain-related event, nine persons were killed after landslides at Shiv temple in Shimla's Summer Hill and Fagli areas. Several residences in the Fagli neighbourhood were buried in the mud and slush brought down by the landslip.

According to the state emergency operations centre, 752 routes in the state were blocked as a result of the disaster. All state schools and universities have been ordered closed today.

Several houses collapsed as a result of landslide and incessant rainfall in Krishna Nagar Area of Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla on Tuesday. The state has been battered with incessant rains in the last two days causing damage to life and property. In a video shared by news agency ANI, several houses could be seen collapsing to rubble as people around could be heard shouting in despair. Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi said some people were feared trapped in those buildings and the rescue operation was underway.

Gandhi informed that one casualty has been reported, adding 10-15 houses have been evacuated. 

"Due to excessive rainfall, some houses have collapsed after a landslide took place. Some residents are feared trapped. Ambulance, NDRF, SDRF, State and District Police are here at the spot. The amount of loss is yet to be ascertained. Rescue operation is underway," Gandhi said. 

"Our primary focus is to rescue more and more people. One casualty has been reported so far. All agencies are working to rescue people. Around 10-15 houses have been vacated and shifted to safe places. Loss of property is yet to be ascertained,” he added. 

Himachal Pradesh Additional Director General Abhishek Trivedi said that around five to ten people are feared trapped while around 30-40 have been rescued.

71 Deaths In Three Days, 2500 People Relocated In Himachal: Principal Secretary, Disaster Management

" 71 deaths reported in three days from 13th to 15th August. Losses suffered amount to around Rs 7500 crores, it is expected to rise. In last three days, 2,500 people relocated to safe places in the state," Onkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary, Disaster Management, Himachal Pradesh told ANI.

Family Loses 3 Generations In Summer Hill Landslide In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

In the tragic incident of the Summer Hill landslide, a family lost three generations in Himachal Pradesh. According to ANI, bodies of five of the members have been recovered so far, two are still missing. 

  • A relative, Sunita Sharma says,  "I have just one request, find them and bring them to us. We will accept them dead or alive. We have been waiting for three days..."
  • Sunedhi, sister of one of the missing persons says, "We don't know what God did to us."  
  • Vinod, brother of one of the missing persons says, "Administration should make such areas safe, have some kind of system in place to ensure that the water recedes immediately."
  • Their neighbour, Mehar Singh H Verma says, "We performed the last rites of four of the members yesterday. They lost their three generations."

'State Suffered A Loss Of Around Rs 10,000 Cr': CM Sukhu Says Redevelopment Will Take A Year

Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to visit Kangra.

He says, "I am on the way to Kangra. We have evacuated over 650 people there. Around 100 people are still trapped in Kangra, rescue operation is underway. Another body has been recovered in Shimla. The state has suffered a loss of around Rs 10,000 crores. It will take around 1 years for us to redevelop the infrastructure of the state."

Shimla Summer Landslide: 1 More Body Found, Toll Reaches 13

BS Rajput 14 NDRF second in command says, "According to information received, we have the proof of 21 victims here. Till yesterday we recovered 12 bodies. Today we got one more body, so 13 bodies have been recovered. We are using specialised equipment other than heavy machinery. We can't confirm when will the search be over because the bodies in the down area are spread over at least 2 km and we can't use machines there so rescue has to be done manually."
