New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh Government is seeking a ‘rashtra mata’ status for cows. The lawmakers passed a resolution in the assembly for declaring cow as the ‘mother of nation’ on Thursday evening.

Congress MLA from Kusumpti Shimla, Anirudh Singh tabled the resolution and both the parties including Congress and the ruling BJP passed it unanimously. The resolution will now be sent to the Centre.

Uttarakhand government has also passed a similar resolution earlier.

The legislators of the state stressed the fact that cow is far placed from the ambit of the politics and is not limited to any caste or religion.

Anirudh Singh who tabled the resolution said that there was a need to appreciate the huge contribution to humanity that cow makes. He said it was unfortunate that people abandon the animal after it stops giving milk,

The Congress MLA also demanded for laws that regulate the growing incidences of cow vigilantism and mob lynching in the state.

The legislators also cited the example of Rajasthan where a separate ministry for cow was constituted.
