New Delhi: The impending decision over Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh, where four contenders are in the race to the chair, will be taken by the Congress high command on Saturday, in a meeting scheduled at Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s place in New Delhi. Following it, the party will hold its legislature party meeting in Raipur where it will declare the leader of the party.


As per the latest update, meeting has already begun at Rahul Gandhi's residence in which apart from the Congress president, UPA chief Sonia Gandhi , party observer Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress state in-charge P L Punia  along with the four contenders of the CM post - Bhupesh Baghel, T S Singh Deo, Tamradhwaj Sahu and Charan Das Mahant are present.

Baghel and Deo's name were  emerging as the front runners until today. However, sources revealed that Tamradhwaj Sahu is likely to be picked by the party high-command.

Gandhi on Friday met four senior leaders of the state unit of the party in Delhi and held discussions with them.

All four leaders along with party observer Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress state in-charge P L Punia will arrive in Raipur on Saturday by a special plane. Subsequently, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting will be held at the party's state office Rajiv Bhawan during which the name of the chief minister will be announced, he added.

Congress ended the BJP's 15-year rule in Chhattisgarh in the recently concluded Assembly elections by winning 68 of the 90 seats.
