Hathras Case: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi met with the grieving family members of the 19-year-old woman of Hathras who was allegedly gangraped and murdered in New Delhi. The discussion went on for around 40 minutes in the small room of their house in which senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was also present.

The two leaders assured that they are with the family and will fight for their security and a speedy justice, said the family members.

After the meeting was over, while interacting with mediapersons Priyanka Gandhi said: "The family could not even see the face of their daughter in the final moments. UP CM Yogi Adityanath should understand his responsibility. Till the time justice is delivered, we'll continue this fight."

"Rahul Gandhi said that the party is with them in all their demands, the family has suffered injustice one after another," said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury after their meeting was over.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached the residence of the victim at around 7:25 pm.

As per the people present inside the house, an emotional Priyanka embraced the victim's mother who broke down upon seeing her, as soon as she entered the house.

The two leaders reached Hathras on Saturday evening in their second attempt, after their previous pursuit was quashed by the Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday. In their previous attempt, Rahul Gandhi was roughed up by the Uttar Pradesh cops and the visuals showed him being pushed and falling to the ground. Authorities had scuttled their earlier attempt, detaining them and several party workers in Greater Noida outside Delhi.

Earlier today, a high drama unfolded at the Delhi Noida Direct flyway, while their cavalcade was moving towards Hathras, where cops lathi-charged some of the Congress workers.  The UP Police said they will allow five party party representatives to meet the family in the village in Hathras district.

A batch of five leaders were allowed by the cops to leave for Hathras, which included Rahul, Priyanka, KC Venugopal and Adhir Ranjan, while senior leaders including Randeep Surjewala & others were not permitted to leave.

The 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped on September 14 in an assault by four men that left her critically injured. She died at a Delhi hospital last Tuesday.
