Harsimrat Kaur Resigns: Shiromani Akali Dal member and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has resigned from government to protest farm bills. The development comes hours after SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal taked about her resignation in Lok Sabha. Earlier today, Ferozepur MP  Sukhbir Badal who is the husband of union minister Harsimrat Kaur Bada said she will resign during discussion on farm bills in the lower house of the Parliament.


Kaur was serving as the Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing Industries in the Government of India and Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Bathinda.

Earlier Congress had slammed the SAD for its alleged concerted attempts to divert the public attention from its failure to protect the rights and interests of the farmers. Punjab Congress leaders on Thursday said the party was totally in unison over the farm Bills in sharp contrast to the Akalis.

Angry over three agriculture-related Bills, hundreds of farmers blocked major highways in parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday to demand that the proposed laws should not be pursued in Parliament.

Government has introduced three farm bills in the Parliament. about the three farm Bills. These were earlier brought in as ordinances. One of the Bills, the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, was cleared by the Lok Sabha amid the opposition's objections. The other two bills have been introduced as well. They are The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020.
