The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday said central forces have been deployed in West Bengal to assist the state police in maintaining law and order during Hanuman Jayanti, PTI reported. Hanuman Jayanti festival will be celebrated across the country on April 6.
"There will be an ample number of state police forces deployed at sensitive areas in the state and also at those places where violence was witnessed recently, Apart from that, we have decided to deploy three companies of paramilitary forces in Kolkata, Hooghly and Barrackpore," a senior government official told PTI.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has claimed there are plans afoot for another round of violence in the state on Thursday durung Hanuman Jayanti and urged everyone to maintain peace.
"Tomorrow is Hanuman Jayanti. I will urge everybody to celebrate it peacefully. There will be no problem if peace is observed. Bengal is the land of peace," Banerjee told reporters.
The TMC supremo has been alleging that BJP was behind the recent incidents of clashes in Howrah and Hooghly districts during Ram Navami celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has decided to conduct 500 Hanuman Jayanti programmes across Bengal on Thursday.
VHP national assistant secretary Sachindranath Singha said no weapons would be carried during the processions
Notably, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory to the states ensuring a law and order situation during Hunaman Jayanti on Thursday.
"The governments are encouraged to ensure the maintenance of law and order, peaceful observance of the festival, and monitoring of any factors that could disturb communal harmony in society," it said in a statement on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police took out a flag march in Jahangirpuri where violent clashes took place during the Hanuman Jayanti rally last year.

DCP Seelampur team stopped Mishra at Buradi and he is being taken to the DCP office Civil Lines.

On the law and order situation on Hanuman Jayanti, Dependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi Police said, "On Hanuman Jayanti, there will be a lot of programs across the city. We have a strategic deployment of paramilitary forces. We will ensure all places expecting processions are safe."

Bengal police has said that Sukanta Majumdar's Hoogly visit was cancelled as per the court's order.
The police in an email said that it was not right for them to come due to the law and order situation. Hence his visit to Hooghly was cancelled as per the order of the court, they added. Majumdar was to attend the party's program in the Bansberia area in Hooghly.
