Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Sunday returned to Rohtak's Sunaria jail as his month-long parole ended. He returned to Sunaria jail late afternoon, news agency PTI reported a police official from Rohtak as informing. The convicted Sirsa-headquartered sect chief was granted parole last month and had gone to the Dera Sacha Sauda Ashram, Barnawa, in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district.

Gurmeet Singh had walked out of the Sunaria jail in Haryana's Rohtak a month ago after he was granted parole for the second time this year. He turned 56 on August 15.

The Dera chief is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples.

Previously, the Dera chief was out on a 40-day parole in January. In October last year as well, he was granted a 40-day parole.

Before that, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had come out of jail on a month-long parole in June last year. He was granted three weeks' furlough from February 7, 2022.

The Haryana Government has been questioned over the frequent paroles granted to the rape convict. When asked about it in July, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala told PTI, “It (parole) is allowed to a person as per the jail manual. This is a constitutional right. The government will definitely look into the issue if there's anything done against the law.”.

In 2021, Gurmeet Ram Rahim and three others were convicted for hatching a conspiracy to kill Ranjit Singh, a Dera manager. He, along with three more, was also convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago.
