New Delhi: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, convicted in a rape and murder case, was brought back to Sunariya Jail in Rohtak's Haryana on Monday after his furlough ended. According to information received, Ram Rahim was brought to jail at 11.50 am. He was given a furlough from February 7 to February 27.
A few days prior to the Assembly elections in Punjab, he was discharged from jail and given a furlough for 21 days. During this time, he was also given Z-plus security. The Haryana government had claimed that Ram Rahim had a threat to his life from Khalistani supporters.
Ram Rahim has a large number of followers in Punjab. The opposition had alleged that the government had given a 21-day furlough to Ram Rahim to influence the elections, while the Haryana government said that the opposition's allegations were unfounded. Ram Rahim, who came out of jail on a 21-day furlough, was staying in his Ashram under tightened security.

He is serving a 20-year jail term after being convicted of raping two of his female disciples at his 'ashram' in Sirsa in 2017. He has been in prison since being convicted in August 2017. This is the first time he has been bailed out for such a long duration. Earlier, he was granted a day's parole to visit his ailing mother.
Ram Rahim was also convicted for the murder of a journalist along with three others in 2019. He is also accused in several other cases, including the murder of the former Dera Sacha Sauda manager.
