Last year, several tinsel town celebs came forward to donate huge sum of money to different relief funds to help the country in its fight against COVID-19. Common people from different walks of life also contributed their bit to support the fight against the pandemic, which has wreaked havoc. While India is grappling with the health crisis, a Gujarati couple has decided to break their fixed deposit worth Rs 15 lakh to help the COVID patients.

Rasik Mehta and Mehta, who belong from Gujarat, lost their only son due to Coronavirus last year. They had saved the money for the future of their only child, who succumbed to COVID-19. They opted for a pre-mature withdrawal of their fixed deposit to save the lives of other patients, who are battling the virus.

“Rasik Mehta & Kalpana Mehta a couple from #Gujarat breaks FD of Rs 15 lakh, saved for the future of their only son who they lost to covid last year, to help lives of other #COVID19 patient,” Twitter used named Nausheen Khan shared a picture of the couple while calling them ‘unsung heroes’.

It’s hard to imagine to donate your entire savings to help others but Mr. and Mrs. Mehta have emerged as messiahs for several people.  They have distributed kits and other materials to over 200 patients, who are observing quarantine. The couple also took efforts to ensure that over 350 people are vaccinated. They spent their own money to help others receive the dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The Mehtas have also given their car so that it can be used as an ambulance to fetch the patients.

The netizens lauded the couple for their efforts and called them 'Real life heroes'. One user tweeted, "Great so great. Pride of Nation."
