New Delhi: As the deadly second wave of Coronavirus continues to rattle the country, several reports of clashes and violence between medical professionals and family members of Covid-19 patients are coming to light.

In a similar incident, family members of a 62-year-old woman patient created a ruckus outside Delhi’s Apollo hospital in Sarita Vihar area after she died allegedly as she could not get treatment at the hospital.

A video of the staff being attacked by the relative near the hospital gate has gone viral on social media.

The purported video clip shows hospital staff and some people engaged being engaged in a physical brawl, hitting each other with sticks near the entry gate of the hospital.

The hospital received a woman in a critical condition at the emergency in the early hours of Tuesday. Immediate medical attention appropriate to her condition was given by a team. Given the paucity of beds, the family was advised to shift the patient to another facility with available beds. Unfortunately, the patient died around 8 am, following which her family members resorted to vandalism, destruction of hospital property and assault on our doctors and staff.

While the hospital deeply condoles the death of the patient, it is deeply shocked at the behaviour of the patient's family against doctors and healthcare workers who are providing untiring services amidst the pandemic.

It is also been said that several doctors, nurses and staff have been injured in this attack.
