As per the early reports, the incident took place at about 12 PM. As soon as the villagers heard the noise, ten fire tenders were rushed. After hours of operations, the fire has been doused off now.
Bharuch collector MD Modia told that all the injured persons were immediately taken to hospitals nearby hospitals in Bharuch.
Meanwhile, the district administration officials have shifted nearly 5,000 people staying in nearby villages - Lakhi and Luvara - to a safer place as the presence of poisonous chemicals of the affected plant could be dangerous.
"An inquiry will be conducted in the incident," Bharuch District Collector added.
Following the incident, several people shared first visuals from the site showing log plume of black smoke rising from the plant that is located on an open area. Some dead bodies were recovered from the factory, while others died in hospitals. (Rescue) operation is still underway," said Bharuch Superintendent of Police RV Chudasama told news agency PTI.
A total of 40 injured workers were shifted to various hospitals in Bharuch and near Vadodara, the SP said, adding that more details were awaited.
Plants containing poisonous chemicals are located nearby the factory where the blast took place.
Last month, at least eight people including a minor, were reported dead in a major gas leak mishap at LG Polymers chemical plant, Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam.
Over 1000 people had fallen ill after the gas leakage. According to the report the leak happened around 3 am and the police are in the process of evacuation residents in the area.
