'God Bless Goa': Chidambaram Mocks TMC's Poll Promise Of Rs 5000 Monthly Grant For Women

The TMC has declared that it will run for all 40 seats in the state Assembly elections scheduled for early next year.

New Delhi: After the Trinamool Congress (TMC) announced a direct cash transfer system for women in Goa if elected, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram mocked Banerjee's party, saying, "God bless Goa!"

TMC leader Mahua Moitra stated on Saturday that under the Griha Laxmi programme, Rs 5,000 will be handed to a woman from every home each month as guaranteed income assistance to battle inflation if her party is elected to power in the coastal state.

Reacting to the announcement, senior Congress leader on his official Twitter handle writes, "Here is math that deserves the Nobel Prize in Economics. A monthly grant of ₹ 5000 to a woman in 3.5 lakh households in Goa will cost Rs 175 crores a month. That is ₹ 2100 crore a year."

The TMC has declared that it will run for all 40 seats in the state Assembly elections scheduled for early next year.

Previously, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which will also run in the Goa elections, vowed that if elected, it will raise the pay granted to women in the coastal state under the state-sponsored plan and also provide monetary assistance to those who are not covered by it.

30% Quota For Women In Jobs In Goa If Elected To Power: Priyanka Gandhi

On Friday, Congress national secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra guaranteed a 30% quota for women in jobs in Goa if her party wins power in the state.

She had alleged that the incumbent BJP's philosophy was "anti-women," and she had urged people to look into the track records of new parties from "outside" the coastal state.

The Congress emerged as the single largest party in the 2017 Goa Assembly elections, capturing 17 seats but failing to establish a government. The BJP then formed a coalition with certain regional parties and independents to create a government.

In the House of Representatives, which had 40 members, there are presently just three legislators.
