Will 'Disprove' Smriti Irani's 'Spin' In Court: Jairam Ramesh

Congress MP and general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Friday said that the party's leaders will "challenge and disprove the spin" being put out by Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani over the matter of an alleged illegal bar run by her daughter in Goa.

Jairam Ramesh's statement came after the Delhi High Court today issued summons to him, Pawan Khera, and Netta D'Souza on a civil defamation suit filed by Smriti Irani seeking damages of over Rs 2 crore for allegedly making baseless accusations against her and her daughter.

"The Delhi High Court has issued notice asking us to formally reply to the case filed by Smriti Irani. We look forward to presenting the facts before the court. We will challenge and disprove the spin being put out by Ms. Irani," Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted.

Civil Defamation Suit By Smriti Irani

Smriti Irani filed a civil defamation suit after the Congress leaders alleged that her 18-year-old daughter Zoish Irani ran a bar illegally in Goa and also targeted the minister over the same. The Congress demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack her from his Cabinet.

While the Union minister has dismissed claims of her daughter's association with the outlet, Congress leaders have continued to target her using screenshots of her old posts as well as Zoish Irani's interview.
