In an apparent dig at BJP, Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra remarked on the tandoori chicken controversy, labelling BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala, who protested to suspended MPs eating tandoori chicken in front of the Gandhi statue, as the "BJP's hired help."

Taking to Twitter, Mahua Moitra said, "BJP’s hired help commenting on what food suspended MPs eat on dharna. Silly Souls! Don’t you know your masters serve both tongue & cheek ?!"

Silly Souls is a Goa bar that made headlines due to suspected violations alleged by the Congress.

The suspended MPs have been protesting for 50 hours in the Parliament compound. Different groups are in charge of their own meals, and a schedule for breakfast, lunch, and supper has been created.

The Trinamool reportedly arranged for tandoori chicken on Thursday. Shehzad Poonawala, a BJP spokesperson, questioned the gravity of the protest by objecting to non-vegetarian food being served in front of the Gandhi statue.

Reacting to this, Shehzad Poonawalla had said, “As per media reports, some suspended MPs protesting in front of Gandhi statue in Parliament consumed 'tandoori chicken'. Everyone knows Gandhi ji had staunch views on slaughter of animals. Many people are asking if this was a protest or a farce and a picnic."

Sushmita Dev of the Trinamool Congress responded by saying that behind closed doors, RSS officials eat anything and that the food offered is not the issue, and that the BJP is concerned with the opposition parties' menu.

"Behind closed doors, people and leaders of RSS eat everything behind closed doors. So, don't make a comment on our food. They can't tolerate that the food is being brought not from our home, but by other MPs. They are scared of this solidarity," she stated.
