At least 60 people, including 10 women, were on Tuesday taken into custody in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, for protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. Showing black flags and placards that read ‘Go Back Modi’, the protestors also raised slogans against the Prime Minister besides staging a road blockade.
The protestors, who were later removed by the police officials, were venting their ire against the Centre for not voting against the Sri Lankan Government during the United Nations discussion on war crimes in the island nation.
Accusing the ruling dispensation at the Centre of acting against the interests of Tamils, one of the protestors said the Indian Government not holding Sri Lanka responsible for the war crimes is a huge betrayal of the Tamils.
The protests took place as Prime Minister Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu, which votes in a single phase on April 6, to campaign for the NDA.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi while addressing an election rally in Dharapuram hit out at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Congress while alleging the two parties “have their own dynast agenda”.
The Prime Minister, who was addressing his first rally in Tamil Nadu before the assembly elections, added a “vote for the NDA is a vote to solve long-standing issues”.
