Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh today. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) shared this information in a statement. 


"Inspiration behind the Expressway is the vision of the Prime Minister to provide fast paced connectivity across the country," read a PMO statement on Thursday. This expressway of about 594 km long and six-lane will be built at a cost of more than Rs 36,200 crore.


The Ganga Expressway will begin from near Bijauli village of Meerut and will go to Judapur Dandu village of Prayagraj. This expressway will reach Prayagraj via Pratapgarh, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, and Rae Bareli.






What Will Be Significant In The Ganga Expressway?


About a 3.5 km long airstrip will be constructed at Shahjahanpur on Ganga Expressway. This airstrip will assist Air Force aircraft in emergency take-off and landing. Apart from this, there is also a proposal to build an industrial corridor along the expressway.


The Expressway will boost "industrial development, trade, agriculture, tourism etc. It will provide a big boost to the socio-economic development of the region," as per the PMO statement. 


Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav has been attacking PM Modi. He said, "Ganga Expressway project was started by Mayawati Ji. These people (BJP) are laying the foundation stone of the project started by Mayawati," to ANI.
