'Uphold Vision Of Self-Reliance, Inclusivity': Prez Murmu, VP Dhankhar, & More Extend Greetings On Eve Of Gandhi Jayanti

President Murmu paid respect to Mahatma Gandhi in her address on the occasion of his 154th birth anniversary.

On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and various other leaders conveyed heartfelt congratulations to residents and urged them to adopt Mahatma Gandhi's principles and teachings into their thoughts, voice, and deeds for the good of the country. President Murmu paid respect to Mahatma Gandhi in her address on the occasion of his 154th birth anniversary, praising his enormous effect on the globe with his ideas of truth and nonviolence, according to an official statement.

She emphasized Gandhi's dedication to nonviolence, cleanliness, women's empowerment, self-reliance, farmers' rights, and his struggle against untouchability, social inequality, and illiteracy as paving the way for a new global order.

President Murmu further stated that Mahatma Gandhi's leadership in the freedom movement altered history and brought India to independence. She went on to say that his influence spread beyond India, influencing leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Barack Obama.

In conclusion, President Murmu urged everyone to promise to follow Gandhi's principles and teachings in their thoughts, speech, and deeds, and to devote themselves to the welfare of the country, emphasising that Gandhi's concept is still applicable today.

Praising Gandhi, Vice President stated: "Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of Truth (Satyagraha) and Non-violence (Ahimsa) were the guiding light in India’s struggle for independence against colonial rule.  His relentless pursuit of freedom and equality remains a beacon- not just for Bharat, but for the global community- in our quest for a just and harmonious society."

"As we pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, let us pledge to follow in his footsteps and strive to uphold Gandhi Ji’s vision of self-reliance, inclusivity and universal brotherhood for ever-greater progress of Bharat," he further stated.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the country in the 'Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan', joining the massive cleaning effort ahead of Mahatma Gandhi's Jayanti. Modi was spotted with wrestler turned social media personality Ankit Baiyanpuriya sweeping the ground with a broom.

“Today, as the nation focuses on Swachhata, Ankit Baiyanpuriya and I did the same! Beyond just cleanliness, we blended fitness and well-being also into the mix. It is all about that Swachh and Swasth Bharat vibe!” PM Modi posted on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has applied Mahatma Gandhi's motto of 'Swachhata hi Seva' through the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' with the strength of public engagement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday.

“God resides in cleanliness only,” Shah posted on X.
