As per the new tariff, rate of petrol in the national capital reached Rs 104.61 per litre on Tuesday whereas diesel priced at Rs 95.87 per litre.

New Delhi: Fuel prices in India continued to surge with an increase of 80 paise on Tuesday, reported news agency ANI. As per the new tariff, rate of petrol in the national capital reached Rs 104.61 per litre on Tuesday whereas diesel priced at Rs 95.87 per litre.

Compared to a day earlier, petrol cost Rs 103.81 per litre on Monday while diesel was at Rs 95.07 per litre.

In the commercial capital, Mumbai, petrol price increased by 84 paise costing Rs 119.67 per litre on Tuesday while diesel price shot up by 85 paise and is at Rs 103.92 per litre.

On Monday, petrol priced at Rs 118.83 per litre while diesel cost Rs 103.07 per litre.

Due to taxes imposed by state governments, fuel prices vary across the country.

On Monday, CNG prices had too hiked in the national capital by Rs 2.5 per kilogram. With new prices that came into effect on April 4, the Compressed Natural Gas in Delhi cost Rs 64.11 per kg, ANI had reported.

The surge in fuel prices came on March 22 after a pause of more than four months. In November last year, the government had cut excise duty on fuel in order to provide relief to consumers. Petrol price was at an all-time high when the government slashed duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs10 a litre.

The increase in fuel prices is being attributed to rising cost of crude oil in the international market due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the prices are expected to rise even further.
