Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to France has begun a heated war of words in India with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Union Minister Smriti Irani on the two sides. Irani on Saturday slammed the former MP for his tweet on PM Modi's visit to France and 'silence on Manipur'. Irani called Gandhi a 'frustrated dynast', adding that he seeks international intervention in India’s internal matters and 'mocks' India when the PM receives a national honour. The response came on Rahul Gandhi's 'Rafale gets him (Modi) a ticket to the Bastille Day Parade' remark.

The Union Minister further said that Gandhi is 'rejected by people' and is angry because defence contracts are no longer 'landing at the doorstep of dynasty', in an apparent jibe at the Gandhi family.

"A man who seeks international intervention in India’s internal matters, a frustrated dynast who sullies the ‘Make in India’ ambition mocks India when our PM receives a National honour. Rejected by people, he seethes as defence contracts no longer land at the doorstep of dynasty," Irani said while quoting Rahul Gandhi's tweet.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi said that the European Parliament has discussed India's internal matter and Manipur burnt but 'PM hasn’t said a word on either!'.

"Meanwhile, Rafale gets him a ticket to the Bastille Day Parade," the Congress leader said.

"Manipur burns. EU Parliament discusses India’s internal matter. PM hasn’t said a word on either! Meanwhile, Rafale gets him a ticket to the Bastille Day Parade," the tweet read.

The development comes after the Defence Acquisition Council has approved proposals for buying 26 Rafale-Marine versions and three additional Scorpene-class submarines for the Indian Navy, Defence officials said as quoted by news agency ANI.

The DAC granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for procurement of 26 Rafale Marine aircraft along with associated ancillary equipment, weapons, simulator, spares, documentation, crew training and logistic support for the Indian Navy from the French Government based on Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA).
