The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Tuesday released the third episode of season one of 'Congress Files' alleging massive corruption under the UPA government from 2004-2014. The saffron party titled the series as 'The Lost Decade' adding that 'Congress Means Corruption'. The party has come out with detailed revelations relating to the coal scam and 'painting for Padma Bhushan' accusation in the three episodes it has released so far.


All the episodes are of 2-3 minutes in length and talk about scams that occurred during the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led UPA regime.


Congress Files: First Episode — An Account Of Scams


In a fresh round of attack, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) brought up corruption allegations against Congress during its tenure by releasing the first episode of 'Congress Files'. The BJP brought up corruption cases such as the Coalgate scam, the 2G Spectrum case, the Commonwealth scam, etc in its video.


The BJP took to Twitter to share the first episode with the caption, "The first episode of Congress Files, see how one after the other corruption and scams took place under the Congress rule".






The video kicked off post the introduction title plate with a message reading "Congress means corruption". It then stated, "Congress has looted Rs 48,20,69,00,00,000 from the public in 70 years of its rule. That money could have been utilised for so many useful areas of security and development. Using this much amount, 24 INS Vikrant, 300 Rafale jets, and 1000 Mangal Missions could have been made or purchased. But the country had to bear the cost of Congress' corruption, and it lagged behind in the race of progress."


BJP continued the attack on Congress while terming the 2004-2014 decade as the "Lost Decade". 


The video then went on to claim, "The government led by Manmohan Singh turned a blind eye to all the corruption that kept on happening under his rule. In those days, papers were filled with the news of corruption, looking at which the heads of every Indian hung in shame.  Coal scam of Rs 1.86 lakh crore, 2G Spectrum scam of Rs 1.76 lakh crore, MNREGA scam of Rs 10 lakh crore, Commonwealth scam of Rs 70,000 crore, a bribe of Rs 362 crores in the helicopter deal with Italy, 12 crores bribe for the Chairman of Railway Board."


At the end of the video, the caption in video read, "This is only the jhanki (trailer) of Congress' corruption, the movie is still not over."


Congress Files: Second Episode — Painting For Padma Bhushan


The second episode of the Congress files talks about the case where it was alleged that the party forced former Yes Bank MD Rana Kapoor to purchase a painting by MF Hussain for Rs 2 crore. The episode further said that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which contains case studies of terror funding nations like Pakistan, had a case study of the Gandhi family.


BJP alleged that Yes Bank Co-founder had told ED that Priyanka Gandhi forced him to buy a painting of MF Hussain. The painting was priced at Rs 2 crore and the amount was used in the treatment of Sonia Gandhi.






It said citing the ED's chargesheet that Kapoor alleged in his statement that former MP Murli Deora threatened him of deteriorating relations with the Gandhi family.


The video further shows a cheque in Priyanka Gandhi's name of Rs 2 crore that Rana Kapoor claimed to have given her.


On May 1, 2010, the then-Union Minister Milind Deora wrote a letter to Rana Kapoor threatening him to buy the painting, the BJP said in the video. It also alleged that former Congress MP Ahmed Patel even offered Padma Bhushan to Kapoor on the condition of buying the painting for the Gandhi family.


At the end of the video, the party said that Congress has no answer on these charges because it has had so many scams that the party has 'no accounts' of them.


Congress Files: Third Episode — Coal Scam


The infamous 2012 Coal Scam was the focus of the third episode of BJP's 'Congress Files' alleging how the grand-old party conspired to allot coal mines to private companies at cheaper rates. It began by saying that when coal, an integral part of the Indian economy, can be part of Congress' scams, it is unimaginable what other things could also be there.






The video said that the second regime of former PM Manmohan Singh was in news more for corruption than the promises he made. BJP added that from 2004-2009, the Congress government allotted the mining of coal mines to companies at cheaper rates. BJP alleged that the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report has said that Manmohan Singh-led government conducted the allotment process at its own will.


It recalled that the country lost around Rs 1.86 lakh crore in the scam that came as a heavy hit for the country and its economy. It also mentioned that the most interesting part of the scam was the fact that from 2004-2009, the coal ministry was seen by Manmohan Singh and Shibu Soren. BJP went on to say that the coal scam happened when the ministry was looked after by then-PM Manmohan Singh - 'the remote controlled PM', the BJP said in the video.


The video ended with a glimpse of the fourth episode of the series which will focus on the 2011 Commonwealth Games Scam.
