New Delhi: As PM Modi prepares to leave for all important US Visit, External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar emphasised there is political comfort between New Delhi and Washington and contentious issues such as trade will be resolved soon.
Addressing a Press Meet on 100 days of Modi government, Jaishankar said, "India US relations have come a long way. Look today at the quality of the relationship, the amount of trade, look at the political comfort, look at security cooperation, look at the movement of a people business, students, research"
EAM added that India-US ties are in "good health & I am very satisfied with how the relationship has gone in the last few years, I am very optimistic where it is going"
On the trade issues, publically raised by President Trump, Minister said, "As the relationship grows, there will be issues, the only way you cannot have a trade problem is if you don't trade. Trade problem only happens with people you are closest too. Trade problems are normal, in fact, they are reflective of a very substantial relationship"
Dr Jaishanker added, India has been engaging with the US on the issue, "there would be an effort to take it to a higher level and sit down and see where we can find common ground where there can be given and take and find ways it can work for both of us."
He added "My expectations is some of the sharper edges will be addressed in a not too distant future. I will point to a glass that is 90% full, then a glass that is 10% empty"
PM Modi during his America visit will meet US President in New York and also address a major diaspora event #HowdyModi in Houston which is expected to be a full house with about 50,000 people witnessing the same.
