Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered a DNA test on the body of BJP activist Abhijit Sarkar after his brother Biswajit Sarkar reportedly could not identify the same because of mutilation.
On July 2, the Calcutta High Court had ordered a second autopsy of the body of BJP activist Abhijit Sarkar, who was allegedly strangled to death by a mob in Kolkata's Narkeldanga on May 2, the day the assembly election results were announced. The body was being preserved at the RG Kar Hospital.

According to Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, Biswajit has agreed to a DNA test on the body. “He must know whether the body is of his brother or not,” said Jethmalani.
Samples are to be collected at the Command Hospital and sent to CFSL Kolkata after which the examination report must be submitted to the High Court within 7 days
Advocate General Kishore Datta stated, “The deceased Abhijit Sarkar's brother, mother, and family are not helping in the investigation. Has been called five times for confidential statement, e-mailed, no one has answered.”
According to the Calcutta High Court, if the DNA sample of the deceased matches that of the brother of Sarkar, the matter will be resolved. Additional Solicitor General Dastur said that an autopsy has been conducted and the report will be submitted to Court on a sealed cover. The next verdict will be given on July 15 at 11 a.m.
The Calcutta High Court had previously ordered that the second autopsy must be done in the Command hospital, with the presence of an NHRC representative and not any state government hospital.
